چکیده

Many video coding schemes, including MPEG-2, use a Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). The recently completed video coding standard, H.264/AVC, uses an integer transform, which will be referred to as HT in this paper. We propose an ecient method to convert DCT coefficients to HT coeffients entirely in the transform domain. We show that the conversion is essentially a 2D transform. We derive the transform kernel matrix, provide a fast algorithm and an integer approximation of the transform. We show that the proposed transform domain conversion outperforms the conventional pixel domain approach. It is expected to have applications in transform domain video transcoding. Fast Conversion of H.264/AVC Integer Transform Coefficients into DCT Coefficients

In this paper we propose a fast method to convert H.264/AVC Integer Transform (IT) coefficients to Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients for applications in video transcoding. We derive the transform kernel matrix for converting, in the transform domain, four IT coefficient blocks into one 8 8 × DCT block of coefficients. By exploiting the symmetry of this matrix, we show that the propos...

Improved algorithm for detecting zero-quantised discrete cosine transform coefficients in H.264/AVC (revised version)

Abstract: In this study, an efficient approach for detecting zero-quantised discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients for video coding is developed. Compared with conventional detection methods of zero-quantised DCT coefficients used in H.264/AVC, the proposed algorithm has two major features. First, a new classification of patterns for DCT, quantisation, inverse quantisation and inverse dis...

Fast Intra Mode Decision Using DCT Coefficient Distribution in H.264/AVC

The rate-distortion optimization (RDO) method in the H.264/AVC encoder is an informative technology that improves the coding efficiency, but increases the computational complexity. In this letter, a fast Intra mode decision algorithm using DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients distribution is proposed to reduce the H.264 encoder complexity. The proposed method reduces the encoder complex...

Rate Control Algorithm for MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC Transcoding

There is strong need for research in transcoding technologies to enable smooth displacement from MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC since H.264/AVC has been standardized as international standard. In this paper, a novel rate control algorithm for MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC transcoding, which adopting a new block activity measurement, is proposed. Specifically, the standard deviation of the residual error is introduc...
